How Bloggers Make Money

How Bloggers Make Money

I’m a writer and a business owner because of my blog, and I love it. I love the schedule flexibility and the independence. Sometimes, I can’t believe how lucky I am when I get my paycheck from my blog. Do you want to find out how bloggers make money from home or from their computers? When people first hear that I make money without going into an office, they don’t believe me. Or, they think it’s incredibly hard. Although it has been a lot of work to build my blog, now that it is up and running, it is a relatively easy way for me to make passive income and help pay my bills. As my site grows, I make more money for relatively the same amount of work, and it’s wonderful.

Bloggers can make money in a lot of different ways. Today, we are going to talk about the two most popular ways that bloggers make money from.

How Bloggers Make Money:

Ads

This is most often the first and easiest way to monetize your blog. When you click on an ad on a blogger’s website, they get a small payment. When you even scroll by an ad, even if you don’t look at it, they get a small payment. These can be very, very tiny, but can really add up. This is where traffic matters. The busier your site, the more people who see these ads, the more money the blogger makes off having these ads on their site. You can use plugins and add the ad code to your site yourself, or outsource it and hire a developer. (It’s much easier than you think, but takes some technical prowess.) You can set up your own private ads or use ad networks like I do. My favorite is Media.net. You can learn more about the payment for specific ad placements in my in-depth post How Bloggers Make Money With Ads.

Affiliate Sales
Ah, affiliate sales. This way of monetizing your blog make some of the more popular bloggers a lot of money. Think of this as a commission. Affiliate sales are the biggest percentage of income from my blog. It’s important to remember being genuine and recommended partners or products you actually use is crucial. Your readers are smart and can see right through a post that is written strictly for the affiliate sales. You can learn more about bloggers and affiliate sales in my post How Bloggers Make Money With Affiliate Sales.

There are tons of other ways to make money from your blog. Obviously, this is a very basic review of how bloggers make money. More experienced bloggers should reference the in-depth posts on each monetization method listed above.

Ready to get serious about your work from anywhere job search? I whole-heartedly recommend Flexjobs, the site where I found my first freelance writing gig. There are zero scams on their site and they have their own 100% remote team, too!

    HI Lisa,

Great ideas on how to make money with your blog.

Another idea of monetize your blog through selling your own product and services like ebooks, courses or coaching.

    Quick question
Do you ever feel having advertising on your blog distracts readers from your blog? I have for a long time avoided this cause I personally don’t like ads.
    Love to hear your thoughts.

      Hi Norm!

Thanks for stopping by and bringing up selling a product to make money. I know a great deal of bloggers who make GREAT income from this. Personally, I haven’t gotten there yet but am excited to do this one day when I feel I have enough experience to create something my reader’s can benefit from!

As for the ads – I don’t think readers are necessarily distracted by carefully placed ads – but I do think it takes away from the aesthetics of a good blog. I’d love to nix them one day, and hopefully once I have a product the income will justify removing them :).
