4-Day Work Week Jobs

Does a 3 day weekend every week sound like your cup of tea? You may be a good fit for one of the 4-day work week jobs. The 4-day work week is a real thing, and a lot of people are doing it.

The most popular 4-day work week job operates in a 4/10 schedule. Simply put, employees put in 4 shifts of 10 hours, 4 days a week. The days are longer than the traditional 8-hour schedule, but the extra 2 hours a day add to to full-time hours with an entire extra day off.

Compressed work weeks are great to give employees a day during the week to spend running errands, going to doctors appointments, or getting alone time around the house during the week. These are the most common 4-day work week jobs:

Nursing

Nurses are often scheduled to work 12 or 10 hour shifts, which makes it an easy profession to land a 4-day work week job.

Bloggers

Yep, I put it in here. Bloggers can work whenever they want, and many schedule 4-day work weeks to use the day off to hang out with their kids. Check out the reasons why I chose to become a blogger.

Programming

Web developers at companies like Treehouse and Basecamp create helpful applications 4-days a week, enjoying a 3 day break (they also happen to both be on our most popular post ever – 67 Companies That Let You Work From Anywhere.)

Government Jobs

Well, some. A 4-day work week is offered at the Government Accountability Office.

Accountants

One of the ‘Big 4’ in accounting firms, KPMG, offered a ‘compressed’ work week option to their U.S. employees under certain circumstances.

A lot of companies are offering 4-day work week jobs, but until it becomes more mainstream to do so, finding a 3-day work week job may just be a matter of searching for them and finding them. A good tip for finding companies that may not be on this list but offer 4-day work week jobs is to search for postings with the keywords “alternative schedules” or “flexible schedules.” I absolutely recommended using Flexjobs for this search if you are serious about wanting to land a 4-day work week job.
