My Top 10 Work From Home Office Supplies

Working from home is HARD. If you do it, you know it. There are some amazing benefits to working from home, but there can also be some pitfalls. That being said, setting yourself up for success is absolutely key to being productive when you work form home. I’m a big fan of anything that helps makes working from home easier. So, today I am sharing my top 10 work from home office supplies that I use that have made my work from home life way more easier:

1) Colorful Sticky-Notes

Call me crazy, but I love a good color pop. And as much as I love staying digital, sometimes I need to have a physical to-d0 list. I keep a great pen and a stack of awesome sticky-notes on my home office desk at all times.

2) A Tower Computer

I worked from my wonderful laptop for as long as I could, and I still use it to work from when I travel. But I eventually invested in a reasonably priced tower computer and I love it. It boots up lightning fast and has tons of storage space and speed! It also gives me the chance to work with two big monitors!

3) Silicon Organizers

I use these for everything. First, they held my business cards. Now, it’s got my pens and colorful paperclips. I love these because they are cheap and versatile (and is dishwasher friendly).

4) A Moleskin Notebook

If you’re a frequent visitor to this site, you know how much I love Moleskin notebooks. They have personalized notebooks, specially themed, limited edition notebooks, and most importantly – they are the embodiment of our modern society’s creatives and were used by people like Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Ernest Hemingway! I know I’ve said this before, but I just get so warm and fuzzy inside when I think about Moleskin and I think everyone should have one.

5) An Exercise Ball

Working for yourself or someone else, in an office or at home, your back gets tired of sitting all day. Plus, bouncing around on a ball like Amy Poehler in a birthing class in Baby Mama is a good way to perk up a dull afternoon. Get one that has an awesome color too, if you want to add color to your home office. (Who doesn’t love some color?)

6) A Bungee Chair

If you can’t do the exercise ball full-time (I can’t, especially when I’m grumpy and want to lean in with some ferocious focus) then I’d suggest any awesome bungee chair. They are cute, colorful and most of all comfortable.

7) Dual Monitors

I saved up for a long time to invest in a second monitor – and it was completely worth it. I was lucky to have them at my desk job, and really missed the setup once I started working from home. Especially with freelance, I love being able to have 2 screens up – one to research and one to write. I ended up with two of the HP V193 18.5-inch LED Backlit Monitor – ENERGY STAR monitors, and they are under $100 a piece!
8) A Tape Dispenser & Stapler

One of the great things about working at a desk job was that you never had to worry about where things came from. They just showed up in the supply closet, and you didn’t have to remember all the office supplies required to work efficiently. One of the things I immediately missed was a simple tape dispenser and stapler. (even though I swear my tape dispenser was swiped straight from my desk at least 5 times)

9) A Filing Cabinet

If you’ve got the room, I’d recommend using a filing cabinet. I store everything related to my freelance business and my blog in these babies- from my various completed (or pending completion) ecourses, books, flyers and print-outs that I want easy access to at my desk.

10) A Swiveling Surge Protector

I’m lucky to have an office-nook built into the wall near my kitchen, but even with that extra space, I’m always trying to get cords outta my face! I found that opting for a swiveling outlet style surge protector was super beneficial to save the extra area and keep cords from taking up too much unused room.

There it is, all my top work from home office supplies I use to get me by and be much more productive! And don’t forget that if you use any of these office supplies solely for your business, you can likely deduct the cost from your taxes. 🙂

Ready to get serious about your work from anywhere job search? I whole-heartedly recommend Flexjobs, the site where I found my first freelance writing gig. There are zero scams on their site and they have their own 100% remote team, too!
