Avon Work From Anywhere

Welcome to the first installment of The Drifting Desk’s Secret Work from Anywhere Jobs!

The purpose of this exciting series is to expose you to common Work from Anywhere careers that you may not be aware of. These jobs will always allow you to work as a digital nomad, working from your home or a beach across the world while setting your own hours. If you want to skip reading and go shopping, feel free to jump straight to Laurie’s Avon shop.

Disclaimer: I know Laurie IRL! She’s one of the kindest, hardest working women I’ve ever met. I’m absolutely thrilled to feature her small business on The Drifting Desk. Let’s get to her interview:

About Avon & Laurie:

There are 6,000,000 people actively working with Avon as Reps. 500,000 are from the US, and I recently had a chance to speak with one of them. Independent Avon Rep Laurie Allen (a fun and spunky registered nurse with her cosmetology license) gave me the low down on the Ins and Outs of working with Avon.

What it’s like to work for Avon?

Um, amazing…Reps sell Avon’s household, beauty and personal care products, and it’s incredibly fun.

How does Avon let you be a digital nomad?

Avon used to rely on door-to-door sales people ding-dong, Avon lady calling! as well as in-home parties. Because of the internet, times have drastically changed. Many reps are making their income 100% online through social networking, online-parties and catalog distribution. Avon also has an app so I can connect with, nurture and grow my client base right from my phone. These features are how I make money with Avon anytime, anywhere.

What are your work duties?

I distribute catalogs to places I would have visited anyway. I leave behind catalogs in my doctor/dentist waiting rooms, my hair salon, restaurants, park benches, airports, coffee shops, bookstores, restaurant tables, or hotel rooms. I also use word-of-mouth and social-media for means of advertising. My clients, and sometimes I, place orders through Avon’s super-easy website. Then, I make a commission on the sales.

What are the startup costs?

Great question! It’s $15 to sign up, get instant access to the site and start making money almost immediately.

What type of person excels at working with Avon?

I connect with Avon on a personal level, so it makes it easy to sell their products. I love beauty products and people, and I am honored that be a part of a company that is a leader in philanthropic efforts like Avon’s Walk to End Breast Cancer.

What’s your favorite thing about working for Avon?

I think it’s amazing the company offers trips as incentives for meeting your goals. I’m planning on revving up my sales this year, so it’s not unrealistic to imagine I may be awarded a vacation from Avon just for hitting my goals. That’s a perk I can live with.

What’s your favorite product?

I’m such a long-time fan of Avon’s entire skin line. Anew Clinical is hands down a legendary favorite for myself and tons of Avon’s customers.

How much money can I make with Avon?

Realistically, it can be a lot. It depends on how much product you are selling which is directly related to the effort you are putting into your business. I see a lot of active Reps online who are making about $2,000-$4,000 per month. ‘Senior Executive Leaders’, as they are known, easily make six-figures a year. There are a lot of people who are Avon Reps and make a full-time income. These are all estimates based on what I’ve seen online.

Roundup:

Based on my interview with Laurie as well as research, here are my opinions on the Pros to working with Avon:

*Avon has been around for a long time (1886) and is one of the most well-known and established direct sales companies.

*The products are insanely affordable, so it makes it pretty easy to casually sell them without pressuring people.

*Avon has one of the lowest startup costs ($15) in the Direct Sales industry.

What’s your personal experience working with Avon?

Ready to get serious about your work from anywhere job search? I whole-heartedly recommend Flexjobs, the site where I found my first freelance writing gig. There are zero scams on their site and they have their own 100% remote team, too!
